In partnership with the Kentucky Chamber Foundation, local chambers of commerce across Kentucky hosted local National Civics Bee competitions this spring, in which middle school students participated in live quiz events to test their civics knowledge and discussed issues facing their communities.

The Bardstown-Nelson County Chamber, Campbellsville-Taylor County Chamber, London-Laurel County Chamber, Northern Kentucky Chamber, Paducah Area Chamber, and Southeast Kentucky Chamber hosted local competitions. The top three finalists from each local bee will compete in the statewide event.

The National Civics Bee is an initiative aimed at encouraging more young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. Organized in partnership with The Civic Trust of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the competition strives to inspire middle schoolers to become better informed about American democracy, to engage respectfully and constructively in the community, and to build greater trust in others and institutions.

“When we understand how democracy works, we can make it work better. We hope that the Civics Bee will broaden participation in our civic life and inspire Kentuckians to build on our shared commitment to our values, institutions, schools, economy, and the health of our community,” said Kentucky Chamber Foundation Senior Vice President Beth Davisson.
