Ahead of the first meeting of a group looking into the Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System, legislative leaders announced their appointments to the group Tuesday.

The 23-member panel, created by Gov. Steve Beshear through executive order, is set to study the system and suggest changes to strengthen the retirement plan.

Kentucky Chamber President and CEO Dave Adkisson is among the members of the group along with others selected by the governor and six slots for members of each legislative chamber to be chosen by leadership.

Senate President Robert Stivers announced Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer of Georgetown, Republican Sen. Joe Bowen of Owensboro and Democratic Sen. Morgan McGarvey of Louisville as his picks for the work group.

From the House, Speaker Greg Stumbo has appointed himself to the group along with fellow Democratic Rep. Derrick Graham of Frankfort and House Republican Leader Jeff Hoover to the group.

The first meeting of the work group is set to take place Friday, July 17.  Read more about the KTRS work group and others set to serve on the panel here.
