As workforce continues to be a critical issue for Kentucky, the Kentucky Chamber is hosting a summit on January 30, 2018 to address the key workforce topics facing the business community.
When breaking down the causes of Kentucky’s workforce crisis, education is a key focus area. Strada Education Network, a national nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen the path between education and employment, concluded the following statistics about Kentuckian’s education:
- 13% of Kentuckians would choose a different institution
- 27% would change their level of education
- 37% would change their major
The following statistics show where Kentucky differs from the rest of the nation:
- Only 73% of Kentuckians believe they received a “high quality” education – less than the national average of 77%.
- Only 62% of Kentuckians would recommend their educational paths to others like them – less than the national average of 65%.
- Only 66% of Kentuckians believe their education was worth the cost – less than the national average of 69%.
- Only 41% of Kentuckians feel they need more education to advance in their careers – less than the national average of 47%.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Strada Education Network’s Vice President of Research and Policy, Derek Redelman, at the summit.
Also speaking at the day-long event, Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary, Terry Gill, will speak on the Role of Workforce Development in Kentucky’s Economic Development as the keynote.
Other sessions will include discussions from industry leaders about employer-led partnerships between education and workforce, talent recruiting, diversity, the opioid and addiction crisis and more.
