Education bills clear full Senate, head to House for consideration in February
On Friday, the Senate passed Senate 3 and Senate Bill 8, two key education bills of the 2019 session.
Senate Bill 3, sponsored by Sen. John Schickel, gives superintendents hiring authority of principals. The legislation also equalizes the number of parents and teachers on school councils. SB 3 passed the Senate with a 23-13 vote on Friday.
Senate Bill 8, sponsored by Sen. Steve West, takes steps to professionalize Kentucky’s tribunal system by ensuring the hearing officer of a tribunal is an attorney trained in education law, also passed 23-13.
Both bills now head to the House for consideration when lawmakers return in February.
