
Senate Bill 3, sponsored by Sen. John Schickel, gives superintendents hiring authority of principals. The legislation also equalizes the number of parents and teachers on school councils. SB 3 passed the Senate with a 23-13 vote on Friday.
Senate Bill 8, sponsored by Sen. Steve West, takes steps to professionalize Kentucky’s tribunal system by ensuring the hearing officer of a tribunal is an attorney trained in education law, also passed 23-13.
Both bills now head to the House for consideration when lawmakers return in February.
