Legislative Update: Bills dealing with DUI laws and executive branch ethics see movement

Driving Under the Influence

Legislation to update state policies dealing with driving under the influence passed through the Senate on Wednesday with a 34-0 vote.

Senate Bill 85, sponsored by Sen. Whitney Westerfield, seeks to change state DUI laws to provide treatment, clarifies and expands the laws related to ignition interlock devices, and makes it a Class C felony when there is a third offense of driving under the influence.

The DUI legislation now heads to the House to be heard in committee.

Executive Branch Ethics

Senate President Robert Stivers presented Senate Bill 6, legislation to require executive branch lobbyists to have the same reporting requirements as legislative lobbyists, to the Senate State and Local Government Committee on Wednesday.

Stivers noted that at the legislative level, lobbyists must disclose who they are employed by, how much they are getting paid, what they are working on, and more. Senate Bill 6 would apply those same requirements for appropriate reporting to the executive branch.

The bill passed through the committee and now moves to the full Senate for a vote on the floor.
