UPDATED: Many Kentuckians have been receiving letters stating an individual has filed for unemployment benefits. Many of these claims are fraudulent and were not filed by the individual, causing problems for employees and employers.
The governor’s office has confirmed with the Kentucky Chamber these letters are concerning fraudulent claims made on behalf of employees or individuals.
If you receive a letter like this or suspect you have had a fraudulent UI claim, email that information to UIfraud@ky.gov.
This issue is not new to Kentucky or across the nation with other states. Fraud makes up about 35% of UI pandemic claims. The federal government over the past six months has provided nearly $200 million dollars to states to help fight fraud measures and the Kentucky Attorney General has a fraud identity theft page located on their website for those that need additional help.
