House and Senate form conference committee to hammer out details of the state budget

After the legislative bodies passed their version of the state’s next two-year budget, the House rejected the Senate changes and a conference committee has been appointed to reach an agreement.

House Bill 1, which contains the state budget, did not receive concurrence in the House Wednesday afternoon after the Senate made some changes to the budget. Each of the legislative chambers then appointed members to a conference committee so they can come to an agreement on a final version the House and Senate will have to pass to send to the governor. They will likely want to have this done by March 30, before the veto period begins.

At the first meeting of the conference committee Wednesday night, the lawmakers heard a detailed page-by-page description with the differences within the two proposals.
