SB 120 (Smith) was introduced late Tuesday afternoon and will receive a committee hearing on Wednesday morning. The measure will allow the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet to pursue a regulation change over the course of the upcoming months that will create a certification program for laboratories who test water quality and for waste water pollution. The Kentucky Chamber Energy and Environment Council has reviewed the certification concept and is supportive of the measure because it can potentially take the liability of accidental falsified information from the laboratory or incorrect lab results off of employers who are required to test their wastewater. The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce will continue to follow this legislation and the implementation of the Kentucky Administrative Regulation if the bill passes both Chambers and signed by the Governor.
