Ask your legislator to support charter schools

On Tuesday, February 14 at 8:00 a.m., an informational hearing on a bill in the House Education Committee is important to the state of education in the Commonwealth. HB 77 (Montell) would authorize charter schools in Kentucky. Charter schools are independent schools designed to provide tuition-free public education choices to parents and students. Charters liberate teachers and administrators from red tape and allow more innovation in the classroom. In exchange for this flexibility, charter schools accept high accountability, knowing that they can be closed if they fail to live up to their charter. School districts should have every tool at their disposal to help reach all students, especially tools that have been proven to help those students with the greatest need. Chamber President and CEO Dave Adkisson will join other charter school advocates at the meeting to show support of the bill. We urge you to contact your representative and ask them to show their support for charter schools because the business community deserves an educated and well-trained workforce.
