Principals begin executive-level training at Center for Creative Leadership

The Kentucky Chamber Foundation’s Leadership Institute for School Principals kicked off this week in at the  Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) in Greensboro, N.C., with 26 of the state’s principals attending. So far, the program is receiving rave reviews from participating principals.

The experience at CCL this week has been invaluable to me as an educator,” said Jennifer Hutchison, of Picadome Elementary in Lexington. “I have learned a tremendous amount about leadership and look forward to using this knowledge this upcoming school year. I greatly appreciate the business leaders who made this possible.”

A total of 56 principals were selected to participate in the leadership program. They were split into two groups with the first round taking place this week, and the next round scheduled for July. The principals have spent the week participating in experiential learning exercises, personality assessments, career coaching and facilitated discussions about research surrounding successful leadership habits. Kentucky Chamber Foundation Executive Director Kelly Wolf, has been onsite to monitor the program. Wolf says she’s been receiving rave reviews from all of the principals.

” It has been an amazing experience,” Gary Fields of Bowling Green High School. “In two days, I have learned so much about myself as a leader. Not as a principal, but as a leader. I think that’s a powerful distinction.”

After both groups of principals have completed the week-long training in Greensboro, they will all come together in the fall and winter for additional training session from CCL at the Chamber’s office in Frankfort.

This program was funded through donations from Chamber members and non-members alike. The support from the business community has allowed all 56 principals selected to attend at the training at no cost to themselves.
