On Thursday, Kentuckian Kelly Craft Knight was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Canada.
A native of Glasgow, Kentucky, Knight Craft is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and a well-known Republican donor. Knight Craft has served in previous administrations as she was a U.S. delegate to the United Nations in 2007 under President George W. Bush.
Knight Craft is the wife of Kentucky Chamber Board Chair-elect Joe Craft, the CEO of Alliance Coal.
In reaction to the news, Kentucky Chamber President and CEO Dave Adkisson applauded Knight Craft’s appointment and pointed to the important relationship Kentucky shares with Canada.
“This is great news and will allow Kentucky to have an even closer relationship with Canada, the Commonwealth’s number one trading partner,” Adkisson said.
On Thursday, Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell also congratulated Knight Craft on her appointment.
“Our two nations share much more than a border; we have a heritage of trade and security relations that benefit us both. As a proven advocate for our national interests, Kelly will use her position to continue the long history of friendship between the United States and Canada. I appreciate her willingness to serve our country once again, and I know that she will make Kentucky proud,” McConnell said in a statement.
