Kentucky Chamber highlights economy and jobs on KET Kentucky Tonight
In light of federal and state tax reform, KET Kentucky Tonight host Renee Shaw and guests discussed wages, jobs and the economy on Monday evening.
The program on Monday included a panel of Ashli Watts, senior vice president of public affairs for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce; Jason Bailey, executive director of the Kentucky Center for Economic Policy; Bill Londrigan, president of Ky AFL-CIO and Jordan Harris, founder and co-executive director of the Pegasus Institute.
Kentucky Chamber Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Ashli Watts highlighted the Kentucky Chamber Report, “A Citizen’s Guide to Kentucky’s Economy Since the Recession,” detailing Kentucky is growing in the areas of jobs, wages and population, but is below the national average in these categories. The report, which was published earlier this month, was conducted by Dr. Paul Coomes, the Kentucky Chamber’s Senior Economic Advisor and Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Louisville.
Though Kentucky is below the national average in these categories, the Commonwealth is outperforming most of its surrounding states when looking at the rate of growth.
“The good news is that Kentucky’s jobs, population, and wages are all growing and actually they are growing at a rate faster than most of our surrounding states”, Watts said.
