Kentucky U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth named chair of powerful House committee

With Democrats taking control of the U.S. House of Representatives, Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth has been elevated to chair of a powerful House committee.

Yarmuth, Kentucky’s only Democrat in Congress, was named the Chair of the House Budget Committee on Thursday, which sets funding levels for the national budget.

In a tweet posted after the announcement, Yarmuth said “Proud to have been elected Chairman of the House Budget Committee in the 116th Congress. Budgets are a statement of our values, and with our majority, @HouseBudgetDems will fight to ensure our budgets expand economic opportunities for all Americans.”

Yarmuth has represented Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional district since 2007.
