Former Lexington Congressman and state legislator Larry Hopkins passed away on Monday at the age of 88.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Hopkins served as a Kentucky state representative from 1972-76 and as a member of the Kentucky Senate from 1976-78. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979-1993, representing Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District. In Congress, Hopkins served as a ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee.
Hopkins ran for Governor of Kentucky in 1992, winning the GOP nomination but was defeated in the general election to Gov. Brereton C. Jones.
