U.S. House passes $1.9 trillion “Build Back Better” social and environmental spending plan

On Friday morning, the U.S. House of Representatives passed President Joe Biden’s sweeping spending plan after months of back and forth.

The $1.9 trillion package, known as the reconciliation bill, includes social spending, tax increases, changes to long-standing labor laws, initiatives to fight climate change, and much more. It passed the House with a 220 to 213 vote.

The Kentucky of Chamber recently joined the U.S. Chamber and several other business organizations in signing a letter of opposition to the federal reconciliation plan, arguing the legislation would place added challenges on employers across the nation, many of which are already struggling to navigate workforce shortages and supply chain disruptions.

Read that letter here.

The bill now moves to the Senate where its fate is uncertain.
