A Louisville Metro Councilwoman has won the special election to replace former state Senator Morgan McGarvey, who is now a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Chambers Armstrong won the election against Republican candidate Misty Glin with 77% of the vote.

She has represented Louisville Metro Council’s 8th District since June 2020 and served as Vice Chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party from 2018-2020. Chambers Armstrong is also an assistant law professor at the University of Louisville.

After the State Board of Elections certifies the election results, she will be sworn in and participate in the rest of the 2023 session as part of the Democrats’ minority of seven members in the state Senate, where Republicans hold 30 seats.
