Bourbon industry continues to see growth in Kentucky with a $9 billion economic impact

The Bourbon industry is now providing more jobs in Kentucky, generating more payroll, paying more in taxes and attracting more tourists than ever.

Those are some of the findings in the newly published “Bourbon Economic Impact Report” released Tuesday during a press conference at the Capitol where Gov. Andy Beshear, legislative leaders, the business community, and others joined Kentucky distillers to highlight the industry’s success.

The report, which used data from 100 distilleries in 42 counties, shows that the Bourbon industry has a $9 billion economic impact in Kentucky with more than $1.6 billion being paid to more than 23,1000 workers and $358 million being paid in state and local taxes.

“Kentucky’s economy is booming, and the Bourbon industry is helping us build a strong economy for generations to come,” said Gov. Andy Beshear.

Kentucky Distillers’ Association President Eric Gregory pointed to many updated laws in the Commonwealth in recent years helping to support the industry and help it grow.

And Kentucky Chamber President and CEO Ashli Watts applauded the continued success of one of the state’s key industries.

“Kentucky’s signature industries define our state and will move us forward in this competitive global economy. With a $9 billion economic impact, Bourbon is building a stronger Kentucky one community at a time. That’s why the Kentucky Chamber is thankful to work with the General Assembly and other key groups on new laws to keep Kentucky competitive and ensure our Bourbon industry continues to grow right here in the Commonwealth,” Watts said.
