New members of the Kentucky House of Representatives sworn in on day 55 of 2024 session

As the 2024 session of the General Assembly enters its final days, two new members were sworn in to their new seats in the Kentucky House of Representatives Monday afternoon.

Courtney Gilbert, the sister of state Sen. Adrienne Southworth, is a Republican from the 24th House District representing Green, Hart, and LaRue counties. Gilbert won the special election on March 19th to replace former Rep. Brandon Reed with 62.5% of the vote. Reed left the General Assembly in January for a new role as Kentucky Office of Agricultural Policy Executive Director under Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell.

Gilbert did not file to run in the November election so she will only hold the seat for the remainder of this session and through the interim.

In House District 26, Republican Peyton Griffee won the special election for the seat vacated by former Rep. Russell Webber who took a position as chief deputy in the state Treasurer’s office. Griffee is an attorney at the Sweat & Griffee Law Firm in Shepherdsville.

The newly elected lawmaker will serve in the seat representing areas of Hardin County for at least the next two years as he does not face a primary or general election challenge.
