Kentucky’s BlueOval SK plant is set to not be unionized when it opens next year.
Gov. Andy Beshear appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday where he said an agreement was reached between Ford Motor Company and the United Auto Workers which allows non-union employees to work alongside union workers thanks to a new entity.
“We respect those agreements and their negotiations,” Beshear said. “We are excited about how the union and the company were able to come together to reach an agreement that works for everybody. And that’s what we want to see. We want to continue to see companies invest because we need them. But we want them to be good jobs that support our families and I think that is what we got here.”
This news comes after Ford Motor Company had previously said the EV battery plants across the country, like BlueOval SK, were complicating union negotiations back in 2023.
The Ford/BlueOval SK EV battery plant being built in Hardin County that was announced in 2022 is expected to create 5,000 new jobs, expanding on Ford’s investment in Kentucky currently employing about 13,000 direct workers between the Louisville Assembly Plant and Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville.
