A new initiative aimed at building on the state’s economic success and strengthening its position as a top destination for business, tourism, and talent was unveiled on Tuesday by Governor Andy Beshear and economic development and tourism leaders from across the Commonwealth.
The “New Kentucky Home” initiative is designed to unify Kentucky’s economic development and tourism efforts under a single, cohesive brand and aims to showcase the Commonwealth not just as a place to visit, but as a premier location to live, work, and invest.
“Kentucky isn’t just a place; it’s full of communities where people support each other, where businesses thrive and where families create good, full lives. Because here in Kentucky, business is fast, but the pace of life is just right – and that is something a lot of companies and families are looking for when choosing their new home,” said Gov. Beshear. “Now is our time to reintroduce ourselves to the world and invite folks to come and experience our New Kentucky Home, and this initiative will help us showcase Kentucky as a place of incredible promise and potential.”
Beshear highlighted the recent economic growth in the Commonwealth – with over 1,000 economic development projects, $33 billion in investment from the private sector, and the creation of 56,000 jobs, and consecutive record-breaking years in Kentucky tourism – and said this initiative will help continue that momentum to attract new businesses, residents, and visitors to the Commonwealth.
The press conference took place at Keeneland and included remarks from VisitLex President and CEO Mary Quinn Ramer, Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corp President and CEO Claude Bacon, and Johnson County Judge/Executive Mark McKenzie on the importance of collaboration between economic development and tourism and how this new initiative will assist efforts to grow their communities.
Keeneland President and CEO and Kentucky Chamber Board Member Shannon Arvin was recognized during the event for the economic impact that Keeneland brings to the Commonwealth and noted Keeneland is a great example of a business that connects Kentucky’s essential industries.
“The intersection of tourism and economic development is clear. Today’s traveler could be tomorrow’s talent, and we know that attracting that new talent to Kentucky is key to our future successes as a state,” said Ramer.
