Rep. Meredith Discusses House Bill 306, Workplace Safety

With the 2026 session of the Kentucky General Assembly underway, Representative Michael Meredith sat down with The Bottom Line to discuss House Bill 306, aimed at strengthening Kentucky’s criminal trespass laws to improve workplace safety.

During the conversation, Rep. Meredith said current trespass offenses often carry limited consequences, which can reduce law enforcement’s ability to respond when workplace safety concerns arise.

House Bill 306 clarifies how criminal trespass law applies in workplace settings by defining when disruptive or threatening behavior is considered as criminal trespass and by giving law enforcement clearer authority to act.

The legislation would also increase penalties for criminal trespass, including making repeat second-degree offenses a Class A misdemeanor.

“I think the most important thing is this is just a step in the right direction for safety for our employees, for our workplaces, and will hopefully provide a safer work environment for all of them,” Meredith said.
