Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman announced Monday she will run for governor, becoming the first candidate from either party to enter the 2027 race.
Coleman has served as the state’s 58th lieutenant governor under Governor Andy Beshear since 2019. A Democrat, she joined Beshear’s ticket after working as an educator and assistant principal at Nelson County High School. Coleman also founded Lead Kentucky, a nonprofit to encourage women to seek leadership roles on college campuses.
Originally from Mercer County, Coleman is the daughter of former state representative Jack Coleman, who served from 1991 to 2004.
Beshear is term-limited and cannot seek re-election in 2027.
Stay tuned for updates on the 2027 gubernatorial race.
