Kentucky’s infrastructure and its role in economic growth were the focus on Friday as U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy joined Congressman Andy Barr, Kentucky Chamber President and CEO Ashli Watts, and Kentucky business and transportation leaders for a roundtable at Blue Grass Airport.
The conversation brought together Kentucky Chamber members and leaders representing aviation, automotive manufacturing, highway construction, rail, riverports, marine transportation, and additional sectors to share Kentucky’s infrastructure priorities as federal leaders consider policies that will shape the nation’s transportation system.
“Infrastructure is not just how Kentucky moves goods—it is how Kentucky grows,” Watts said during the discussion. “A strong, connected transportation network turns our location into a competitive advantage for businesses and communities across the Commonwealth. Continued investment is how we build on that advantage and create more jobs and opportunity.”
Business and transportation leaders also emphasized the need for permitting reform to help critical infrastructure and economic development projects move forward more efficiently.

The conversation also came as Congress considers H.R. 8870, the BUILD America 250 Act, which would guide federal spending on roads, bridges, rail, and public transit for the next five years. With federal dollars supporting a significant share of Kentucky’s capital spending, the legislation would affect projects across the Commonwealth.
Following the roundtable, Barr and Duffy shared updates on improvements underway at Blue Grass Airport to support continued modernization, safety, and growth.
