Senator Steve West was honored with the 2026 Kentucky Chamber MVP Award by Kentucky Chamber Public Affairs Manager Annie Santos in October in Frankfort.
Senator West was among a select group of legislators recognized for their work to advance policies that strengthen Kentucky’s economy, support employers, and improve the Commonwealth’s competitiveness.
Recipients of the Kentucky Chamber MVP Award demonstrate exceptional leadership for Kentucky’s business community by sponsoring or carrying Chamber priority legislation to final passage, leading on critical policy issues, or taking difficult votes in support of a stronger business climate.
As chair of the Senate Education Committee, Senator West sponsored Senate Bill 4, which establishes a professional development program for school principals that incorporates an intensive leadership program developed in partnership with the Kentucky Chamber Foundation. He is also recognized for his work on energy policy as a member of the Energy Planning and Inventory Commission.
“Chair West understands the critical role school principals play in shaping student success and preparing Kentucky’s future workforce. His vision for Senate Bill 4 recognizes the importance of investing in their professional development and giving them the support they need to succeed. The Kentucky Chamber Foundation and Truist have long partnered to provide the Leadership Institute for School Principals because we believe principals are the CEOs of their schools. We appreciate Senator West’s leadership in making this a priority during the legislative session,” said Kentucky Chamber Foundation Senior Vice President Beth Davisson.
The 2026 General Assembly made progress on many top priorities of the Kentucky business community, and the pro-growth policies that passed saved Kentucky businesses an estimated $1.564 billion, or $911 per private-sector employee in the Commonwealth.
While monitoring legislation that impacts Kentucky’s business climate, the Kentucky Chamber tracks lawmakers’ support for policies that help employers grow, create jobs, and invest in their communities. MVP Award recipients distinguish themselves not only through their voting records but through their leadership in advancing solutions that strengthen Kentucky’s economy.
