Constitutional Amendment to limit state debt passes Senate committee

Senate Bill 56 (Bowen) would place a constitutional amendment on November’s ballot which the voters could decide to amend Kentucky’s Constitution to limit the amount of debt the state could issue to six percent.

The measure passed the Senate State and Local Government Committee on Wednesday and awaits action on the Senate Floor. The Kentucky Chamber made similar recommendations to this proposal in its state Spending Principals in its 2011 Building a Stronger Bucket report.
