On Tuesday, state Rep. Robert Goforth, a Republican from East Bernstatdt near London, Kentucky, announced he will run for governor in 2019.

Goforth is a pharmacist and farmer who was elected to the legislature in 2017 in a special election to represent the 89th District before being re-elected in November. The GOP state Representative is the first to officially announce his candidacy on the Republican side. Gov. Matt Bevin has stated he will run for re-election but has not yet filed the paperwork or made a formal announcement.

Democrats are beginning to see a crowded primary with Attorney General Andy Beshear, House Minority Leader Rocky Adkins, and former state auditor Adam Edelen all officially in the race.
