GOP state Representative Robert Goforth enters 2019 governor’s race

On Tuesday, state Rep. Robert Goforth, a Republican from East Bernstatdt near London, Kentucky, announced he will run for governor in 2019.

Goforth is a pharmacist and farmer who was elected to the legislature in 2017 in a special election to represent the 89^th District before being re-elected in November. He made the announcement on Tuesday alongside his running mate, Mike Hogan, the Lawrence County Attorney who also ran for attorney general in 2015 and was defeated by state Sen. The GOP state Representative is the first to officially announce his candidacy on the Republican side. Gov. Matt Bevin has stated he will run for re-election but has not yet filed the paperwork or made a formal announcement.

Democrats are beginning to see a crowded primary with Attorney General Andy Beshear, House Minority Leader Rocky Adkins, and former state auditor Adam Edelen all officially in the race.
