Gov. Beshear Appoints Kerry Harvey as Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary

On Monday, Governor Andy Beshear appointed Kerry Harvey as Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary, with Keith Jackson, former Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs commissioner, serving as the cabinet’s new deputy secretary.

Prior to this role, Harvey served the Beshear administration as secretary of the Public Protection Cabinet. Throughout his career, Harvey has also served as the U. S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and as general counsel and inspector general for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

To fill the role as secretary of the Public Protection Cabinet, Governor Beshear appointed Ray Perry, who has served the cabinet for 17 years, most recently as deputy secretary.

“I’m honored that Gov. Beshear has asked me to lead the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet,” Secretary Harvey said. “The cabinet plays a vital role in ensuring that the citizens of our commonwealth live in a society that is both safe and just. I look forward to working with the team at the cabinet in pursuit of these inseparable ideals.”
