Over the weekend, Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles announced he will be running for governor in 2023.
Quarles is the second Republican to announce his candidacy for the race as Kentucky Auditor Mike Harmon has also announced his intent.
The announcement was made first at the Fayette County GOP Lincoln Day Dinner Saturday and then Quarles confirmed his candidacy in an interview on WKYT’s Newsmakers on Sunday.
Quarles is in his second term as agriculture commissioner and is term limited.
Many other names have also been rumored as potential candidates in the GOP primary. This week could see many other announcements.
Current Democratic Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has confirmed he is running for re-election.
