The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce was again listed as the top lobbying organization for the 2016 session on spending as the Chamber’s staff advocates for issues important to the business community and moving Kentucky forward.
In a report from the Legislative Research Ethics Commission, the Kentucky Chamber’s advocacy efforts topped the list with $281,378 spent during the 2016 session, Louisville Business First reported.
The Kentucky Chamber is the largest business organization in the state, monitoring hundreds of bills per year and advocating for the passage of critical legislation to advance Kentucky while also fighting detrimental bills.
Victories for the business community during the 2016 session included passage of a public-private partnership (P3) bill, felony expungement legislation, a strong budget that seeks to solve the state’s fiscal issues, education flexibility legislation, and much more.
In a statement, Kentucky Chamber President and CEO Dave Adkisson said he is proud of the work the Chamber is doing on behalf of its members.
“A broad-based business association like the Kentucky Chamber must monitor literally hundreds of bills for its members during a session of the General Assembly. We don’t have the luxury of only focusing on three or four bills for a particular industry sector. It takes a very talented staff to keep up with the traffic of legislation – both good bills and bad bills – during a legislative session and during the interim periods when committees continue to meet and make decisions,” Adkisson said.
As the state’s premier business advocate, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is a recognized and respected voice at the state Capitol.
The voices of thousands of members representing every major industry sector in the state are heard through the Chamber’s diverse policy initiatives and advocacy efforts.
