As the U.S. Senate passed major legislation to modernize the nation’s infrastructure earlier this month, on Monday, 29 local chambers of commerce sent a letter to Kentucky’s House members urging support of The Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
In the letter, local chambers said investing in infrastructure is key to attracting and retaining business in the Commonwealth and helping Kentucky recover from the global pandemic
The infrastructure package would provide Kentucky approximately $4.6 billion over the next five years to address infrastructure needs. Additionally, the package allocates an estimated $438 million in direct bridge funding as well as added grant programs that Kentucky could apply for to address major bridge and road projects, like the I-69 and Brent Spence bridges.
Every county in Kentucky will benefit from passing this legislation, the letter said, which will increase funding to Kentucky’s highways, bridges, airports, water systems, and broadband deployment.
“The 18 months have been a trying time for our state and nation. We need to get people back to work. We need Kentucky to re-establish itself in this ever-changing economy as a leader when it comes to best places to live, work, and raise a family,” the letter said. “The bipartisan infrastructure package, supported by both business and labor, will allow us to do all this and more. We urge you to join Leader McConnell and support this commonsense legislation and make an investment in Kentucky’s future.”
