Legislative and Congressional redistricting is the first priority of both the House and the Senate, as Kentucky’s General Assembly kicked off day one of the 60-day, 2022 legislative session in Frankfort Tuesday.
Senate Bills 2 and 3 have been filed as the Senate and Congressional redistricting plans and will be heard in the Senate State and Local Government Committee Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. (ET) before moving to the floor. While the Senate’s maps have not yet been released publicly, Senate President Robert Stivers told reporters Tuesday the maps do not pit any incumbents against each other.
The House redistricting proposal has been filed as House Bill 2 with Rep. Jerry Miller as the primary sponsor. That bill and a few other pieces of legislation are set to be heard in the House Standing Committee on Elections, Constitutional Amendments, and Intergovernmental Affairs at noon on Wednesday.
Legislators also filed bills dealing with a three-judge panel for redistricting challenges, site-based decision-making councils for schools, Supreme Court districts, and others that will be heard this week.
Stay tuned to The Bottom Line throughout the 2022 legislative session for updates.
